Migrate Exchange User Mailbox from csv File – Batch Migration

Many times, Exchange Admin have to pass Mailbox in bulk to a new database. Manually move them would be a challenging task. So, you want a unique method to migrate more than one mailboxes. That is why you want to function a batch migration. Batch migration includes the use of a CSV file containing each the supply and goal details, like username, address, password, etc.

We can perform a migration by using the Exchange Admin Center (ECP), here is the procedure of migration both specific user and CSV in Exchange Server 2013

Migrate one by one

Login to ECP as administrator

Go to Recipients->Migration

Click on Plus sign and chose Move to a different database

On the new local mailbox move screen

Click plus sign

Immediately, it will popup a Select Mailbox screen 

Search User that you want to migrate

Click Add (add all users that you want to migrate)

Click OK

On the new local mailbox move screen

Click Next

In the Move Configuration screen

Enter Batch Name

Choose: Move the primary mailbox and the archive mailbox if one exists

Target database: click Browser… to select which mailbox that you want to move user to

Bad item limits: set to 100

click Next

In the Start the batch screen

Enter admin Email or someone who will get notification email after a batch has been completed

Leave everything default and click New

Migrate batch user from CSV file

There are tow step to perform this procedure

Step 1: Get CSV template

Login to ECP as administrator

Go to Recipients -> Mailboxes

find a user (anyone user)

In the export data screen

Select Display Name and Email Address

Click Export

Once the CSV has been exported

Edit that file by list all users that you want to migrate

Now go back to Recipients->Migration

Click on Plus sign and chose Move to a different database

On the new local mailbox move screen

This time we choose Specify the users with a CSV file

Browse to file that we’ve just exported

Untick Allow unknown columns in the CSV file

Click Next

Then follow the above step in the Move Configuration screen Step

Now you are done!

These procedure ways to migrate mailbox from one database to another database is taking too much time depend on the size of the mailbox of each user.

We cannot use any filters for selective migration. Risk of data loss is always there during the migration. Also, you cannot perform migration to other destinations like Office 365.
